Day 7…..Hot Ride Home!!!

Well…..time to ride home. It’s been a great trip, a lot of fun riding and great memories. I did learn that a 4.8 lb helmet is too heavy for a long ride 😬😬😬….Also Dad did a great job navigating us around and learned a few new tech tricks along the way 🤔🧐😁

Time to saddle up and ride home. Dad is getting his tunes….99.5 the wolf tee’d up :). Keep your head on swivel.

A quick breakfast here in Texarkana and a weird story from a random stranger about a motorcycle wreck he was involved in. He knocked on my helmet like you would knock on a door. Weird….anyways let’s ride.

Well I had the opportunity to meet a lady on the road a few minutes ago. Her first name is “Stupid” and last name “Dumb***”. This lady thought it was a excellent idea to pull a flat bed trailer down the highway loaded with furniture. Unfortunately she didn’t “think” the critical step to strap down the furniture was necessary….😬🙄🤬🤬🤬…..what could ever go wrong with this brilliant idea. 🤔 Oh how about a chair that flies off the back of the trailer while driving 60 mph down the hwy and is bouncing on the asphalt like a basketball. 🫣🙄🫣….As I’m following behind her, my amazing NBA level basketball skills kicked in 😁😂😬🫣….should I go left or should I go right. Hmmmm….I went left into oncoming traffic to avoid a chair collision and then darted back to the right to avoid cars coming head on at me. Dad darts right and misses the chair….thankfully accident avoided. After narrowly missing the chair and almost causing a serious accident Mrs. Stupid pulled over and I introduced her to a chirping “Bird”…🤬🤬🤬

After the drama and blood pressure back to normal we rode on. Hopefully to avoid any of “Stupid’s” relatives for the rest of the ride 😁😬😁

We made it home safe to conclude another great trip. 2310 miles in 7 days. A lot of fun and great memories. Until next time 😁😁😁

Day 6…..Fire Department!

Today was a long ride from Oxford, MS to Texarkana. We rode 380 miles which took us roughly 10 hours. Also we had some drama this evening….more to come 🤔🧐🫣😬

The goal today is to ride as far as possible to get closer to home. Dad has to ride through downtown Fort Worth tomorrow, which is very sketchy in a few parts. I want him fully awake for that craziness.

We started the day at BBB’s. A cool breakfast place with really good coffee. I wonder if Eli ever ate here 🤔😬😁

Ok it’s go time….kick stands up. Keep your head on a swivel!!!😁😁😁

Making great time today…..of course we had lunch at a Mexican restaurant. All these towns have a McDonald’s and 1 Mexican place.

Ok ok….I need to make fun of myself 😂😂😂. I finished lunch and feeling good. I’m sitting on a bench outside working on reserving a motel room for this evening. No big deal right….So I finish up and proceed to stand up. I quickly realize I’m stuck to the bench. Apparently the bench was so hot, sap was leaking out from the wood and was all over the bottom of my pants. 🤬😂😁….oh wait now I get to set on my motorcycle for 6 more hours…aka tree sap all over my seat 🤬….errrr. Dad is cracking up laughing. Not helpful 🙂

Last break so we thought. 🥵🥵🥵…It’s hot outside and we are exhausted. Almost there!!!

Now the drama happened……So we rode up on this terrible wreck. It had happened maybe 2 or 3 min before we got there. A truck was on fire and gas tanks started exploding. It was crazy loud. We think everyone got out, but not sure. 😢. The fire department and three ambulances quickly showed up and took over. The neighbors from surrounding houses came out to see if they could help. One lady offering to cook us all “supper”. I really hope everyone was ok. Crazy crazy evening. Another local motorcycle rider behind us was super nice and took us down some side roads to get around the wreck. Very appreciative!!!

Well finally made it to Texarkana….exhausted 💤….time for a couple of whiskeys….neat of course. Dad drinks crown and coke, but I drink a real man’s Woodford straight up…..😂😁😂

💤

Day 5….Multi State Ride!

Today was well a bit crazy to say lightly. We rode 355 miles through four states. Dad had a technology breakthrough using Google maps that gave us a lot of great scenic roads……full of twisties and plenty of straight aways.

Quick shout out to MaryAlice…..this Embassy Suites does have bacon unlike the one at Christmas that we have been going to for 40 years…..hint hint 😁😂🙄

Well it’s go time……helmets on and kickstands up. Ready for what turns out to be a crazy day.

A quick pit stop outside of Knoxville to get a quick updated route. It’s a beautiful day 75 degrees and a lite wind.

A quick dip into Georgia and stumbled upon this. Dad pulled over, again on the side of a bridge, to get this shot 😬🫣😬. Pretty view….quick stop so I don’t get run over :).

Finally made it to Fayetteville. What a great ride…..google rerouted us through a bunch of county roads. We got to see a lot places you never see as mostly these days everyone takes the interstate. It was a lot of fun…..

Time for lunch at this local hole in the wall. The food was ok, mainly needed a break and I was starving.

Dad is excited at lunch about his technology breakthrough with Google maps. He is mapping out our afternoon routes to Oxford, MS. Home of Ole Miss….Hotty Toddy whatever that mean’s, apparently it’s a big thing here.

Ok Oxford here we come. Time to ride….keep your head on the swivel. 😁😁😁

Ok ok quick pit stop for a break. Dad is loving the ride today. We are about 100 miles out and it’s starting to warm up.

Well a couple hours later we may have taken a couple extra scenic routes on accident 😬🫣😁. That’s ok…..the ride was amazing and we finally made it out of some very very back roads. I’m just glad it wasn’t getting dark. 😃

Today was a long day of riding, but a lot of fun. Time to get some rest for tomorrow.

💤

Day 4…..Amazing!!!

An amazing ride today as we finally rode the Dragon’s Tail. It was a lot of fun and well worth it. Lots more pictures today and a couple money shots.

Outside the motel getting pumped up for the big ride. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Can’t wait……three hard days of riding for today. 😬😁😬

Before heading out we stopped for a 5 Star breakfast at the local Shoney’s. It’s not actually the place I remember as a kid. Oh well for a last meal it works. I joke….we will be fine on today’s ride.

Dad a little surprised at how much a Shoneys breakfast cost. Lol…it is a bit ridiculous. Nothing like crazy inflation, but that discussion is for a different day.

Well here we are…the starting point for the Dragon’s Tail…..318 curves in 11 miles down the side of a mountain. What could go wrong 🫣🤔🫣……oh and a bunch of crazy people on mini bikes going a bazillion miles and hour down it. This will be interesting. It’s 75 degrees and perfect weather.

A couple of quick pictures at the Harley shop across the street. We had to get some t-shirts and pay our respects to the dragon…..I kiddd 😁😁😁

About a quarter of the way down we stumbled upon this. Dad decided to stop so we could relax a little bit. It was very tempting to jump in. The water is super clear but I’m sure cold. 🥶

Wow some great stops along the ride down. Here are a couple money shot pictures. Obviously I’m not a photographer, but these are pretty amazing. It’s very surreal.

Well we made it safe and sound. It was awesome. The dead man’s turns were challenging. Nothing we couldn’t handle though. Definitely a lot of downshifting and maneuvering of the bike. We got lucky no crazy people behind us. Here is a picture of the “Tree of Shame”. We did not have anything to hang here. Thank goodness. 😬😁😁

Now time for lunch and beers to celebrate. We found this place. Wow what a cool place. The river in the background was beautiful. What a super cool lunch. Really a lot of fun and very relaxing. They even have there own craft beer. It’s really good.

Salute 🍻…..to a great ride and relaxing lunch!!!

Dad chowing down his burger and relaxing. Enjoying the River.

Well time to head out. The clouds are coming in and expecting rain. No fun but sometimes part of the ride. Here we go down the rest of the mountain. 30 miles of twisties…..should be a blast.

Well we made it down exhausted and ready to crash. We decided to stay at the Embassy Suites to enjoy happy hour and get some much needed rest.

Good night 😴💤

Day 3….The Day of Patience!

Today was a long, fun stressful day of riding. Not only did I get to practice my turns on a few twisty roads, but I also got the honor of IT specialist for all of dad’s high tech needs. 😂🙄😬🤔.

After yesterday’s grind we started off the morning with some Cracker Barrel for breakfast……It was ok. Has anyone noticed they kind of skimp on the bacon these days. Anyways….We are ready to ride and tackle the traffic of Knoxville, TN. Keep your head on the swivel!!! But first we stop and play a mean game of checkers. 🫣😬😬…..and I wonder why we average 30mph 🤔. Ok ok it was a quick game of me whooping dad.

Now we are off like a heard of turtles!!! 🐢🐢🐢

Well after a long morning of riding through TN we have made it to Fayetteville. What a gorgeous day and really a pretty ride. We stopped at a rest stop so dad could “quickly” find a place to eat. After we fumbled around, hot and tired, we made it to another Mexican restaurant.

For some reason this year we always have Mexican for lunch. Not real sure why, although I do love it. Craving some good BBQ…..however I’m no longer in TX. That’s a joke for all my TN family 😂😁😁

Dad is our navigator and working on the afternoon route. Today I had him download Google maps app to help with directions. Now he can zoom in on different routes. In the mean time I’m taking a siesta!!!

At this point it’s 1 in the afternoon and we had gone 160 miles. Which means another 210 to go with 100 miles of interstate…..ugh For those that don’t know interstate motorcycle riding is for the birds.

Oh I almost forgot….so yesterday we rode 20 miles out of our way to stay at a different motel. So you may ask why would they do that??? Well the reviews of both motels in Savannah in big capital letters said BED BUGS don’t stay there. I’m thinking let’s ride on to avoid the nasty bugs. My other rider gave me a hard time today because now we had extra miles to ride. Well worth it in my opinion . Just sayin!!! 🧐

Ok back to riding….a quick pit stop before getting on I25 and dealing with that mess. May the force be with us 🥵🫣🥵.

At least the scenery is nice. It’s hard to tell with my terrible picture taking skills, but this is the on ramp to the scary 🙂 ….The interstate is below.

Finally after hours of riding and sitting in traffic through Knoxville we made it. All safe and sound. Heads still on the swivel. What a hot ride!!!

Another long day of riding in the books. 373 miles in total….which for us is a lot. It took nearly 10 hours……we take lots of pit stops. 🙂

Tired and exhausted….time for dinner and cold beers. We need to get rested up for tomorrow’s “Dragon Tail”. The climax of this year’s trip.

For those that remember 2 years ago before dad’s heart attack I had him walking 5 miles on our motorcycle trip in AR. Now that the heart is back to healthy I added in hills this year 😁🤔🙄

Good night and wish us luck tomorrow. It’s going to be crazy…..eeee 😬😬😬🫣🫣

Day 2….The Grind!!

Today was all about the grind 🥵🥵🥵 as we near the Dragon Tail. We averaged a whopping 30 mph as we navigated through Little Rock and Memphis. The pictures today are a little disappointing…..but similar to this season of Ted Lasso it will get better “believe”. Hopefully everyone has seen Ted Lasso. It’s really good.

We had a quick breakfast at the Quality Inn when I realized my riding jacket was back home. So we must now stop by the Harley shop ……woohoo maybe time for a new bike :). Unfortunately the Harley shop was closed for Memorial Day. Bummer !!!

Dad was disappointed as well and it’s starting to heat up. So we better get back on the road! Keep your head on the swivel!!!

After 3 hours of riding around Memphis in traffic we made it to Mi Pueblo for lunch. It’s not Rendezvous Ribs famous Memphis BBQ, as they were closed today ☹️😞. Maybe next time!

Not much cool scenery around here. Can’t wait to get up in the mountains.

A quick siesta before getting back on the road to the famous Corinth, MS. 🧐🙄😬

Finally pulled into the Holiday Inn after a long 300 mile ride. Still not sure how we only averaged 30 mph. Hmmmm…most importantly we both kept our head on the swivel.

Dad is super excited as we are about to begin our annual “5 mile” hike to the, you guessed it, Cracker Barrel. Dad checked his heart from his watch and did a short warm up before heading out.

It’s go time….Cracker Barrel here come.

Good times at dinner and now time to get ready for the big ride tomorrow. Pigeon Forge here we come. Well we don’t actually know yet where we are going tomorrow. Hopefully some better scenery…..fingers crossed.

A quick siesta before watching the Stars get clobbered. Not sure what happened with that!

Until tomorrow night!

Day 1…..Ride to Hot Springs AR

We are back for our annual motorcycle trip. In case you missed the Day 0 post we are headed to TN to visit the super awesome Dragon’s Tail. I have been told the Dragon’s Tail is the ultimate motorcycle experience of 11 miles down a mountain with over 300 curves.

We were hoping to have more riders this years, however it worked out for just Dad and I to go. Sorry Uncle Scott and Randy!!! Maybe everyone is just scared 🙂

Dad leaving early this morning to meet at my house. His Harley is all shined up and looking good.

A few last min pictures and hugs. My favorite soccer player is here to cheer us on. We call her “Big Time” as she loves scoring goals.

Well it’s go time…..with my robot helmet. This year we are high tech with Bluetooth intercom systems in our helmets. Which I thought was a good idea 🤔….more to come on Dad and technology. Good thing I have lots of patience…. 😂😂😂

Off like a heard of turtles!!! 🐢

Quick pit stop for breakfast and map out our route for the day. A late start as we had to upgrade Dad’s helmet with our new intercom system.

Well we made it to Pilot Point farm to pick up Randy, but he is MIA. 🙁….Randy we sure miss you and all the awesome restaurant places.

On the road again for an exciting hot boring ride down hwy 82. Can’t wait to get to TN. At least it’s not above 100. Not sure what happened to Dad in this pic, however his Apple Watch said his heart is good…..No more five mile walks this year.

Well interesting…..Dad is complaining about how his new high tech helmet intercom is too loud and his music will not play. Mine works fine so not sure his problem. Somehow we pulled into a CBD parking lot so Dad can adjust his Spotify (first time he has used Spotify). I may need to visit this store 😂 sigh 😁

So it’s hard to tell from this terrible picture I took, but we are crossing the border into OK. Not a big deal, except we are parked on the side of a bridge while giant rock haulers are flying by. 🫣 probably not the best of ideas.

Finally we got to Hot Springs…..exhausted and hungry. Almost 400 miles, which is a lot in one day. At least the bikes are still looking good. maybe a little big juice on the front. 🙄

Quick Mexican food for dinner and now back to the motel for some needed rest.

Stay tuned….the first day is typically a little slow on blog content, but it always gets better. Hopefully I can get the intercom working better for dad tomorrow.

PS……to my six your old who is super nervous about me going on this trip. What do you call cheese that’s not yours? Nacho cheese 🧀 😂😁

Day 0!!!

Hello to all our fanbase and family. Our 4th annual summer motorcycle trip begins tomorrow. This year we are planning to ride to TN and visit the Dragon’s Tail. I’m looking forward to another great trip with lots of amazing memories. Stay tuned for the daily blog

I have my two helpers getting the Harley ready for the road!

Day 6 2022

Today our trip comes to a close. It was a lot of fun. Our special guest and navigator Randy did an awesome job. Thank you Randy!!!

The bikes are filthy and have been rode hard. Although they still shine in the sun. Time to fuel up and head back to Lubbock.

Quick stop to take care of a couple things. Randy deep in thought as him and dad talk shop. In the mean time I was on a FaceTime call with Lauren as we were closing on our new house 😬😁🤔……I know I know so much to unpack with that 😁

Back on the road….quick pit stop to Hodies’s for lunch. It was really good. I would definitely recommend it.

After a long ride we stopped to stretch and fuel up. We are now in a hurry as we are trying to miss a big storm that is brewing and headed to us.

Finally made it back to Lubbock. We all had a lot of fun……Until next time sayonara!!!

Day 5 2022

Today was another amazing ride, but with some new interesting roads and a little adversity along the way.

We started off the morning with a great breakfast, as this place was actually open today. A beautiful day outside as it was mid 60’s and sunny. Perfect riding weather or so we thought. 😁😬😬😬🤔!!!

As you can see the views through the mountains are amazing. Dad did a good job with this picture.

As we rode through the mountains. We took a quick break to just relax and enjoy everything. It’s still cool and sunny at this point. Also it’s hard to explain how quite it is out here. Trust me I have a bunch of kids…. 😁

Look at the those bikes….shining in the sun….just wait for it. Trying to build up the drama 🤔

Dad met a new friend today George. Apparently George is a “Marmot”….what the heck. I have never heard of that. Anyways George was laying out getting some Sun.

We made a quick pit stop at Wolf Creek Ski resort. Of course everything there is closed this time of year, however I wanted to get some pics. Elevation is 10,800 ft…..aka we are high up…..Now it’s time to ride down off the mountain as we head to Raton NM.

Before we get too far though we needed to stop for fuel and dad needed a quick siesta. We are all pretty tired 🥱 😴

Along the route down we decided to stop in Del Norte and have lunch at the TapHouse. Dad took this funny picture. I think he is trying to get a selfie with Randy….😁

After lunch it was time to get serious as we had a long ride ahead of us. We decided to take a new route that even Randy had never been on. “Highway of Legends”. It did not disappoint.

Then this happened…..The temperature dropped to the 50’s 🥶 and a big storm blew in out of the East. We managed to navigate around most of it, however we had to set on the side of rode at times to wait it out.

Finally we made it to Raton. The bikes are all filthy dirty. We are soaking wet from being rained on and exhausted from the ride. The new route though was amazing….minus the rain of course.

After we got checked in and cleaned up it was time for dinner. Today was the big day for the famous “5 mile” walk. It’s kind of a tradition now…..Dad was trooper and did much better as he literally was having a mild heart attack the last time. 😬😬😬 yikes. We all three made it fine to “K-Bob’s” for dinner.

That’s it for today…..until tomorrow 😁😴🥱🥶
