Day 4 2022

Hello all of our followers. Today we surpassed 1000 views of the blog. I thought that was cool. Thanks Josh May for starting the tradition.

Today’s ride of the “Million Dollar Highway” was amazing, a bit nerve racking and just a great time. At one point our elevation was 11,000 ft. If you have never taken this route I would recommend it. Just make sure you hold on 😬🫣.

We started off early this morning….Cleaned up the bikes and got them ready for the ride to Ouray.

Randy took us to this great breakfast place. Unfortunately they are closed on Wednesday’s. Really….🙄 who closes on Wed. Anyways we found a new place “Oscars”.

Oscars was really good. A local hole in the wall place that I would definitely recommend. I had pancakes and they were gigantic.

Oh Oscars had a train that Dad really liked. Reminds me of our train we setup at Christmas. Random picture….

So we finished up at Oscar’s and headed to the Harley shop. Randy needed a new Harley helmet before our journey to Ouray. He is now officially a part of the Harley club. We even purchased an official Harley poker chip for him…..aka big time now. 😁

Along our ride in the mountains we stopped for pictures. The views were unreal….however a couple times we could not stop as literally you have the white strip line on the road and then a big drop off the side of the mountain. Yikes 😬 a bit scary.

Finally we made it into Silverton and stopped for a much needed break. The ride was amazing as there were lots of twisties and a couple of these 90 degree turns. So you really got to practice leaning the bike into the turns.

Oh and just to add…..don’t mess up during the turns as on your right is the side of the mountain (gigantic rocks) and on your left…..well let’s just say you could not see the bottom as it was so far down.

After a quick rest we made it over to the Silverton Harley shop to pick up some souvenirs …after that ride we had to turn the hats backwards….just sayin. Good times 😁.

Now off too Ouray…..A great ride and again lots of fun twisties and turns. The scenery is very surreal and the road…..well let’s just say you should experience for yourself as it’s interesting. Don’t worry Barbara, Brenda and Lauren we made it back down intact and alive. Kidding but not really 😬🫣😄

Now time for lunch, but first a little siesta while we decide on a place to eat…..exhausted

Operation #culturedad was a failure today as Thai food was not going to happen. Sorry Josh and Ali I tried. I explained how good the food is, but still a no go.

We ended up at the Goldbelt and it was good. Main thing was we got to relax before heading back down the mountain.

So it’s hard to tell here, but Randy and I are standing on top of this mountain at about 11,000 ft up. There are other mountains all around us. It was pretty cool.

Finally we made it back to Durango for pizza and beers. The ride today was incredible and definitely a memory maker. We all really enjoyed it. Now time to relax and recover a little bit 😁

Good night 😴….see y’all tomorrow

Day 3 2022

Today was an amazing ride from Taos to Pagosa Springs then on to Durango. The weather was perfect and the crazy wind gust finally settled down.

We got an early start as we walked to Michael’s for breakfast only to discover its closed on Tuesday’s. Major bummer, but that’s ok…..Also Randy on the phone still running Tri-Tex Grass 😄.

So we had to make a stop at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. Really a cool place and neat to see. It’s hard to tell in the picture just how deep this thing is.

As we rode through the mountains we landed on this spot. It’s crazy and surreal how quite it is out here. Also the temperature dropped so we stopped to put on more gear 🥶

After some 30 miles of twisties (a lot of fun) through San Juan National Forrest we stopped to gas up at the “best gas station” ever. Not Buc-ee’s cool….but a nice old school place. This is where we were warned about the bears. Apparently they are know to randomly cross the road 😬.

While at the old school Buc-ees Randy met a new friend. Not sure his name, but he was definitely a talker……Nice guy though and always good to be social. Randy says you can always learn something from people.

We then rode on to Pagosa Springs and ate at a really cool Mexican restaurant. This was our view from the patio. It was a lot of fun……Across the way are the hot springs. Someday I want to try them out.

No motorcycle trip comes without adversity. Apparently the bolt that holds my seat in place rattled loose. So a quick repair to make sure my seat doesn’t fall off while riding more twisties on the million dollar highway tomorrow. Gotter all fixed up.

Finally we arrived in Durango and checked in to the luxury motel Days Inn. Not sure what happened to the sign, but hopefully this place is ok. A little sketch…no biggie though.

Time to end the day with some good beers and food from Carver’s. Definitely recommend this place, however our Uber driver to get here was a little weird. Who knew there are 10,000 different types of mushrooms? Apparently she sells them. To much information for me. Just sayin….

In the spirit of continuing the #culturedad movement Dad ordered black beans. As you can see below the bean presentation doesn’t really lend itself to trying them. Dad was out on this one and I can’t really blame him. We tried…

Stayed tuned for tomorrow as we take the million dollar highway. Should be a lot of fun.

Day 2 2022

Another great day of riding….en route to Taos NM. Dad and I started out by meeting up with our special guest the infamous Randy Price in Lubbock, or as we like to say dad’s “business partner” (inside joke if you haven’t heard it definitely ask).

After hearing about all our fun trips…. Randy broke down and bought him a Harley. Very nice bike and all blacked out. Awesome bike Mr. Price!!!

Dad was super excited Randy had on Harley riding boots. Not real sure why 🤔 but hey it’s the small things. They are cool boots and definitely beat the New Balance 608’s (if you know what these are you gotta laugh just sayin).

On to breakfast at the Chicken Run. Need to gear up for a long windy ride/day.

Breakfast was good and now time to head out. As we say “Keep your head on the swivel”

Along the scenic route we made a few pit stops and took pictures of all the amazing scenery. Lol…😬 not really a lot to see so far. Although we did experience 50 mph wind gust so that was interesting 🫣. Hold on tight and keep one eye open is what I learned!!!

The 3 Amigo’s made it through the wind tunnel and now taking a much needed break. The good news is the temperature broke and it’s now in the low 80’s.

Finally it’s lunch time at the Silver Moon Mexican restaurant. It was pretty good and gave us some time to plan out our route to Taos. A lot of big fires up here causing lots of problems for people.

After lunch we road on, however made a quick pit stop on the side of the road as the dedicated fearless leader of Tri-Tex Grass had a work call to take. No judging here….as we have all been there. Also it was nice to relax a few minutes as we waited.

Now it’s getting late afternoon and time to cool down at the DQ with a blizzard. Unfortunately they were closed with drive thru only. Weird….thought Covid was over. Who knows probably a bunch of liberals….I kidd…😂 I kidd 😬

Since we can’t go in we moved down the road to Wendy’s. Not as good as a blizzard, but hey it did the trick. Dad was enjoying his.

Finally we made it to Taos and got settled in. Finished off the day with a round of cold beers and stories of the day. Good times!!!

Oh and we went 385.6 miles today. Which is a lot on bike. A little sore but well worth it !!! Until tomorrow Sayonara!!!

Day 1 2022

Today was day 1 of the 2022 motorcycle trip to Colorado. The bikes were shined up and ready to go. The plan was for dad and I to meet in Mineral Wells at Natty Flats BBQ. If you have not been there you should try it.

Well so the trip got off too a rocky start as it took me forever to get to Mineral Wells. I may have taken a wrong turn and ended up in Weatherford……..Papa Whimp always said every trip goes through Weatherford . So I think Papa was smiling today. Anyways Dad waited patiently and I finally arrived.

The BBQ was amazing as always and now it was time for the what we call the wind tunnel ride to Lubbock.

Well the trip was a little hot. The temp capped out at 105 and we were burning up. Lots of water break stops as the sun beat us down.

Then the craziness kicked in as we got closer to Lubbock…..Out of nowhere the wind picked up with consistent 45 mph gust. Which was interesting to ride through. I felt like I was flying at times….kidding but not really. Don’t worry Barbara and Lauren we slowed down to 80mph to be safe :). Then as we are dealing with the wind we look ahead to a sandstorm coming right at us. If you have never experienced a sandstorm on a bike just imagine sand coming at you for every direction. We had no choice but to just ride through it. Finally we made our way through the mess only to come upon a grass fire on the side of the road and got sprayed by the fire department as they put it out.

Finally we arrived in Lubbock exhausted and ready for a cold beer.

Also we met our special guest rider and he will be joining us tomorrow. So get ready…..

330 miles today and checkin today the fancy Hampton Inn. Dad is sound asleep already. Until tomorrow…..

Day 7 The Ride Home

Today we are headed home after an amazing trip. It really was a lot of fun and some great memories.

Like I said before you have to start your day with a great breakfast. So I “let” 😀 Dad try and redeem himself from the god awful place he picked for dinner to something decent for breakfast. Keep in mind the bar is low.

We arrived at McKees and it looks promising, plus it was close to the motel.

So we order coffee as most people do. To our surprise the spoons in the coffee arrive with some sort of something gross all over them. Then the waitress yells back to the cook “Alliene don’t use them there spoons they haven’t been washed”. Oh good lord so we are definitely below the bar.

So the waitress brought out new cups of coffee…..minus the spoons of course. And eventually breakfast as well. So now we are ready to ride

Dad was a saint and cleaned most of the cow sh** and hay off the bikes this morning. So the Harleys are ready to go.

After pretty much a straight ride home we pulled into my house. Home sweet home at last. Dad still has another 1 1/2 hour ride to his house……he did make it home safe as well.

It was an absolute blast of a trip. In the end we did ~1200 miles through the mountains and National Forrest of Arkansas and back.

Thanks Dad for making the time to do this. As you always say “Keep your head on the swivel”. . ….

For all our fans out there :). See ya next year…..stay tuned!!!

Day 6….Last Day

Well this is our last real day of riding. We are headed to Paris, TX. It’s been a great trip.

Dad is awaiting breakfast at the Embassy as we prepare for the hot ride. I think he is a little tired……I know I am.

Well today’s ride is all flat roads so I thought I would post one pic of some scenery…..lol. #lmao I know.

With the flat roads we got to open up the bikes a little bit and him them roar. It’s 🥵 so it was nice to have the wind to cool you down.

We stopped in Hochatown for lunch at the Blue Rooster. I’m starving and a little 😤. So on the way here we somehow got behind a cattle trailer that slung “sh**” all over the bikes and us…..errrr

This picture does not do justice all the crap on my bike. Oh well I guess just part of it.

Had a descent lunch and a cold beer. Ready to get back on the road to Paris…..prendre la route (a little French since we are going to Paris). 😂

We had to make a quick recovery pit stop. It’s hot and we needed some water. Never thought I would be so excited to see an EZ Mart.

Back in Tejas……woohoo. A little bitter sweet as we are parked on the side of a bridge again 🤔…..killing me dad.

Finally arriving in Paris at a motel. It was a good ride, but we are exhausted.

Nothing a little ice cream from Braums can’t fix. So good. …..

For dinner we walked to this place. It was terrible food, but the only place within walking distance. Please don’t ever stop here to eat. It’s bad…..

This is the cow in front of the terrible restaurant. Lol our random picture for the day…..🥴😜

That’s all for today……hope you enjoyed our blog…..one more post tomorrow. Night….

Day 5!!!

Today we rode from Branson, MO to Hot Springs, AR. It was not a lot of miles, but we rode through the Ozark and Ouchita National Forest so it took all day.

We started off our day at the world famous Hungry Hunter cafe :). It was really good, I would recommend it. They had giant homemade cinnamon roles that looked amazing.

After a hardy breakfast and a lot of coffee it’s time to hit the road. Ozark National Forrest here we come.

So Dad took the pic below and it turned out great. What you may not know is that concrete wall at the bottom is the side of a four lane bridge that we are parked on as traffic (18 wheelers) zoom past us. I was a little 😬, but after directing traffic Dad captured the moment.

A quick break for dad to adjust his GPS and get some water before entering the Ozark National Forrest.

We stopped at the top of the mountain and took some pics. It was an interesting stop as a group of elderly women pulled up in a minivan and started talking to us about our bikes. The oldest one had never rode and wanted to sit on the bike…….I was a little confused and forgot to take pics…..doh……One thing about these trips is you meet all kinds of people.

Pictures done and now back on the road. Lots of “twisties” coming up. So gotta get our game faces on. Only have one shot 🙂

Finally after an exhausting ride we made it to lunch. We stopped at Whatta-Burger….no not WhataBurger. Apparently this place is in AR food hall of fame. Not sure the story line between it and the real WhataBurger in TX :)……anyway it was good and had air conditioning. Shout out to Randy for the recommendation.

Back on the rode, but not before our navigator figures out the quickest route to Hot Springs. Thanks Dad…..it’s hot and humid

Finally we made it to Hot Springs and stopped for a quick water break. I would soon learn this was an important stop as I had a work career epiphany

So apparently the AR DOT pays really well. Do you see the convertible corvette to the left. So the person in that car is the guy who manages the turning of the “stop/wait” sign for passing traffic during construction. I’m not judging, but yet 🤔 maybe I need a career change.

Finally arriving at the Embassy Suites…..just in time for happy hour and a nap.

A lot of fun today…..exhausted but good times. Stay tuned….,

Day 4!!!

Today was a lot fun. We only rode a couple hundred miles, however the road between Ozark and Eureka Springs was amazing. A lot of “twistes”, very surreal scenery and 60 degree weather (perfect).

Up and ready to go I advised dad a good day always starts with a good breakfast. Really a must have……So dad found a 5 star restaurant.

The name sounded promising and I’m up for new local restaurants. So we hopped on the bikes and headed there.

Dad made a quick pit stop to get gas, so I thought……I quickly realized the restaurant was inside a truck stop. I’m super excited now (sarcasm 🙂 ).

As we walk-in a friendly hog greeted us. Now I’m even more excited and ready to have a “good” breakfast. Well at least they had bacon …..lol

Breakfast actually ended up being good as I had an omelette and they did have thick cut bacon 🤔.

Now it’s time to get on the road…..let these Harley’s roar….well as long as I continue to avoid hitting the the kill switch 🙂

We stopped on the side of the mountain for this. The picture does not really do it justice. It was very pretty.

As we rode we had to stop to capture this…..I think this is a first to see a sign like this. Basically I interpreted this as “hey stupid go slow or you will fall off the mountain”.

Well ready or not here we go….

Dad is more optimistic then me, but let the fun begin.

Well after observing a few busted road guards (we stayed away from) we made it down safely. It was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed it. A little tired after slinging the Harley around to make the curves (a little exaggerated:) )……it was a lot fun

Now on to Eureka Springs to relax and have a cold beer.

So let me setup this story. We arrive in downtown Eureka Springs, which if you don’t know is built into the side of a steep hill. So some of the roads are very steep.

It just so happens that to get to the brewery you have to hike up a really steep road. I have been told that when you get old anything that involves the word hike is a problem. 🙂 sorry dad.

Dad was a trooper again…..sucked it up and started the hiking journey. The picture does not do it justice. It was really steep

I was cheering him on as he was doing great. Then literally an 83 year old lady with a cane started to race him and she pulled away for the win.

No worries dad…..I handed out participation 🏆

We made it to the brewery and had some ice cold local beer that was really good. All and all it was a lot fun.

After beers and relaxing a bit we headed back to the bikes. A little nervous going down all these steps but we made it.

Now on to Branson…..

We pulled into Branson exhausted and ready for a nap and some relaxation. We booked a room here. Which worked out.

After a 😴 we grabbed a Uber and headed to the Paddlewheel. It was a cool local place that had open mic night. I asked dad if we should get up and share our vocals with the town…..lol

So we set outside and enjoyed the live music. If you look closely at the guy on the right he is playing a washboard. What the heck is that (generational thing I guess). He said they were playing Bluegrass which reminded me of our days at Oakdale Park. Good times…..

That’s all for today……I’m exhausted. Stay tuned.

Day 3!!!

When you wake up to this view you know it’s going to be a great day. 64 degrees and a cup of coffee. Life is good….

Taking advantage of the weather we decided to head out early…..No real breakfast today which was a bit disappointing :)…..powered eggs are not real just sayin

We had a quick road pit stop while waiting on road construction. Stretched out and ready to go.

Back on the road to Mt Magazine National Park……and a little drama happened. So we are cruising about 60 mph and all is good. Then all of a sudden my bike’s transmission disengaged and the bike shut off while I’m still cruising down the road. So not good…..I may have said a few choice words 🤬

I managed to pull off to the shoulder and park the bike. Dad turned around to come back and see what happened. Well apparently somehow I accidentally hit the kill switch next to the throttle (yeah I know I know). Not real sure how I did that….weird…. Anyway I think Dads heart skipped a couple of beats when he looked in his mirror and I was not back there. So I get the “dumas” award today.

Recovered from the drama and back on the road to Mt. Magazine. The views were amazing and the twisty roads were a lot of fun.

We stopped at the top of the mountain for lunch at the lodge. Shout out to Randy for the location as the food and view was great This was our view while eating.

It’s about 82 degrees and perfect outside

After spending a couple hours relaxing we headed back down the mountain and onto Ozark where we booked a room at the 5 star resort Oxford Inn….

We got checked in and verified the room is bed bug free….I kidd…next on the agenda was a nap to recover.

Finally Dad woke up from his nap and we walked .3 miles (so apparently yesterday was 2.6 miles not 5 miles).

Do you notice anything curious in this pic? Hint look to the left…..

So if your restaurant neighbor is a cemetery ….🤔….oh well we were hungry and nothing a margarita can’t fix

That’s all for today……stay tuned!!!
