Today was day 1 of the 2022 motorcycle trip to Colorado. The bikes were shined up and ready to go. The plan was for dad and I to meet in Mineral Wells at Natty Flats BBQ. If you have not been there you should try it.
Well so the trip got off too a rocky start as it took me forever to get to Mineral Wells. I may have taken a wrong turn and ended up in Weatherford……..Papa Whimp always said every trip goes through Weatherford . So I think Papa was smiling today. Anyways Dad waited patiently and I finally arrived.
The BBQ was amazing as always and now it was time for the what we call the wind tunnel ride to Lubbock.
Well the trip was a little hot. The temp capped out at 105 and we were burning up. Lots of water break stops as the sun beat us down.
Then the craziness kicked in as we got closer to Lubbock…..Out of nowhere the wind picked up with consistent 45 mph gust. Which was interesting to ride through. I felt like I was flying at times….kidding but not really. Don’t worry Barbara and Lauren we slowed down to 80mph to be safe :). Then as we are dealing with the wind we look ahead to a sandstorm coming right at us. If you have never experienced a sandstorm on a bike just imagine sand coming at you for every direction. We had no choice but to just ride through it. Finally we made our way through the mess only to come upon a grass fire on the side of the road and got sprayed by the fire department as they put it out.
Finally we arrived in Lubbock exhausted and ready for a cold beer.
Also we met our special guest rider and he will be joining us tomorrow. So get ready…..
330 miles today and checkin today the fancy Hampton Inn. Dad is sound asleep already. Until tomorrow…..
