Day 2!!!

Well what a day…300 miles….we started off in Amarillo having breakfast at the steakhouse.

And no I’m not wearing the same shirt as yesterday :). Just same color. For those that asked I know I know….

So after breakfast dad and I were getting back on the bikes, but got interrupted/met the former #3 snow skier in the world. He’s a truck driver now. He suggested we scrap our trip and ride to Alaska 🙄. Finally after what seemed like forever we were about to leave and bam a guy walks up who travels and writes magazine articles about bikes and hotels. He was asking about Randy’s bike (the one I’m riding). Dad told him the bike was his partner’s. The guy smiled….I had to remind dad to add the word business in front of “partner”, #culturedad. We may be famous soon in some travel magazine.

The next 200 miles were what I call the New Mexico wind tunnel. It was hotter than hell and the wind was crazy. There was wind from all directions.

We stopped in Clayton at this famous place dad wanted to go to for lunch.

It was not really famous, but it had air conditioning and water so no complaints. Then it was back to the wind tunnel for another beating.

Finally as we pulled into Cimarron a storm blew in. I have never been so excited to see a big storm. The temp dropped and the clouds blocked the sun. We got rained on a little bit until we pulled into a gas station for a much needed break.

The picture does not do it justice.

We then decided to cut our day short and stay in Cimarron. So the only hotel in town is haunted. The lady had a room for us until she realized we were on bikes. All of a sudden our room was unavailable. #annoyed. So we moved to plan B, book a hotel somewhere close. Dads phone had no coverage, which makes sense for an AT&T customer. My Verizon phone worked like a champ. 🤔

We got a room in Angel Fire about 50 miles away at the ski resort. The ride to Angel Fire was amazing. We rode through Cimarron State Park. Lots of winding roads and a little bit of rain.

Finally arrived at the lodge for some much needed rest. We are exhausted….aka dad is already asleep and snoring

Good night 💤
